Tangerang Waste Bank Expands Use of Waste, Processing Used Clothes into Doormats
West Region Waste Bank Team Coordinator Saifuddin emphasized the importance of regular evaluations to maintain consistency in citizen movements.
"This quarterly evaluation is not just a matter of numbers and scales, but a reflection of our commitment to continue to grow, be sustainable and have a real impact on the environment," said Saifuddin.
Home sorting to reduce landfill burden
Apart from using used clothes, the meeting highlighted the sorting of dry waste, such as PET plastic, as well as the processing of organic waste using household composters.
Karawaci Subdistrict Head Achmad Zuldin Syafii expressed the regional government's support for the movement which is run independently by residents. According to him, sorting from households can help reduce the burden on final processing sites while opening up economic opportunities.
"The local government fully supports self-help initiatives like this. Through structured waste sorting from the household level, residents not only help reduce the volume burden on the Rawa Cat landfill, but also actively save the environment and create new economic opportunities for families," he said.
However, the activity description does not include data on the volume of waste that was successfully diverted from the Rawa Tikus TPA through the waste bank movement in the five sub-districts.
