GARISBUMI.com – Cleaning continues into the estuary to deal with rubbish, sedimentation and dozens of shipwrecks that block entry and exit to the water during low tide.

BANYUWANGI, GARISBUMI.com | A total of 45.6 tons of waste was collected from the Kalimati River in Kedungrejo Village, Muncar District, Banyuwangi Regency, during four days of cleaning until Thursday (29/10/2026). However, river handling has not been completed. In the estuary area, officers still have to deal with sedimentation and dozens of fishing boat wrecks that block water flow during low tide.

This condition means that it is not enough to carry out work by lifting rubbish. Cleaning also includes handling sediment deposits and plans for transporting shipwrecks so that the flow of water in and out of the estuary is smoother.

Acting Head of the Banyuwangi Environmental Service (DLH), Bayu Hadiyanto, said the cleaning of the pile of rubbish was targeted to be completed within a week. Activities started on Monday (26/10/2026), involving local residents and various elements.

"The results of our inventory show that the waste collected on the first day was 12.5 tons, on the second day 18.3 tons, on the third day there were 9.1 tons, and today 5.7 tons. So a total of around 45.6 tons for 4 days," said Bayu, as published in a statement from the Banyuwangi Regency Government.

Cleaning shifted to the estuary

According to Bayu, in the first three days officers had cleaned up rubbish along around 700-800 meters of the Kalimati area. On the fourth day, work focused on the estuary.
