The Yogyakarta Tourism Draft Regional Regulation is Highlighted, Groundwater and Carrying Capacity are a Concern
YOGYAKARTA, GARISBUMI.com – Availability of groundwater, environmental carrying capacity, and protection of historical areas are of concern in discussing the direction of Yogyakarta City tourism development until 2045. The Yogyakarta City DPRD has asked that these aspects be taken into account in development policies and translated into measurable programs.
These considerations emerged when the Special Committee (Pansus) together with the executive team discussed improvements to the Draft Regional Regulations regarding the Master Plan for Tourism Development for the City of Yogyakarta for 2026–2045, Tuesday (20/10/2026).
Chairman of the Special Committee, Krisnadi Setyawan, emphasized the need to take into account the carrying capacity and capacity of the environment, the availability of groundwater, as well as restrictions on development in conservation areas. The height of the building also needs to comply with spatial planning regulations.
According to Krisnadi, conservation recommendations must be translated into policies and programs with measurable indicators. The implementation of Strategic Environmental Studies (KLHS) is also a concern in improving the Draft Regional Regulation.
This discussion followed up on the results of consultations with the Ministry of Culture and UNESCO, especially regarding the management of the Yogyakarta Philosophy Axis area as a world cultural heritage.
The special committee assesses that the direction of tourism development needs to be aligned with the protection of historical areas, management of urban landscapes, and improvement of community welfare.
