Bappenas: Green Transformation Must Become Real Action, 5.3 Million Workers Needed by 2029
As many as 72 million jobs can be transformed
The projected need for more than 5.3 million green jobs by 2029 shows that the transition to a green economy will bring major changes to Indonesia's job market.
Green jobs are not only related to the emergence of new professions in the renewable energy sector, circular economy, sustainable agriculture, environmental management and low-carbon industry.
More than 72 million existing jobs also have the opportunity to undergo transformation through the application of environmentally friendly technology, efficient use of resources, and increased workforce competency.
Therefore, the development of green jobs must be seen as an agenda for creating new jobs as well as improving the quality of jobs that are already available.
This transformation requires an ecosystem that is able to reconcile development needs, technological developments and job market dynamics. Strengthening policies must go hand in hand with aligning education and training with the needs of the business world.
The government also needs to strengthen green skills development, labor market data and information, and stakeholder capacity. Collaboration between government, business, educational institutions, workers, communities and development partners is an important part of this process.
The readiness of human resources will determine how much the benefits of the green transition can be felt by society. Workers who have skills according to the needs of the green economy are expected to be able to increase productivity, competitiveness and prosperity.
