Two Banten Geothermal Areas Encouraged by Local Economic Movement
JAKARTA, GARISBUMI.com – The Banten Provincial Government is encouraging the development of two geothermal working areas in the Banten Lake Caldera/Rawa Lake and Mount Endut. Its use is directed at strengthening the supply of clean energy while providing an economic impact on the surrounding community.
Head of the Banten Province Energy and Mineral Resources Service, Ari James Faraddy, said that regional governments need to be involved from an early stage. This involvement is considered to help anticipate social obstacles and regulatory issues when the project starts running.
“Local governments need to be involved from the early stages of project development. "With early involvement, various potential social and regulatory obstacles in the field can be anticipated," he said. said Ari at The 12th Indonesia International Geothermal Convention and Exhibition at the Jakarta International Convention Center, Jakarta, Wednesday, 19 August 2026.
According to Ari, geothermal development should not stop at electricity production. The energy and mineral content produced can be used to support other economic activities in the region.
Direct use of geothermal heat, for example, can be used in the drying process of agricultural commodities such as coffee. Other potential includes the development of the petrochemical industry and the use of by-product minerals such as silica.
“Geothermal is not just a provider of electrical power, but can also be an instrument for creating jobs, encouraging technological innovation, and providing a direct economic impact on the local sector,” he said.
The Banten Provincial Government stated that it continues to communicate with the community around the development area. This approach is carried out so that the public obtains information about the project and can experience its economic benefits.
