45 Thousand Mangroves Restore 25 Hectares of Cangkir Island Coast
TANGERANG, GARISBUMI.com – Around 25 hectares of the Cangkir Island coastal area in Kronjo Village, Tangerang Regency, which was previously affected by abrasion is now productive again. Planting tens of thousands of mangrove stems not only helps protect the coastline, but also revives ponds and opens up business opportunities for coastal residents.
The restoration was carried out by Pulo Cangkir Mangrove Park (MAPUCA) with the support of Pelindo's Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program. Since 2022, around 40,000 to 45,000 mangrove stems have been planted and maintained in the area.
The development of the program was presented during the Radar Banten Award 2026 visitation, Thursday, September 3 2026. The jury team consisted of the Secretary of the Banten Province Bappeda Desta Munggara and the Managing Editor of Radar Banten Agus Priwandowo.
MAPUCA President Heru said the conservation movement started out of concern about damage to the north coast of Tangerang Regency.
“Initially, this area did not have mangrove forests and was affected by abrasion. "Every day the waves hit the shoreline until a 25 meter long pond is destroyed," he said. Heru said.
Tens of Thousands of Mangroves Planted
MAPUCA was founded in August 2018 and operates in the conservation of natural resources and community empowerment. Its activities cover the fisheries, agriculture and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sectors.
