2,649 Schools Encouraged to Carry Out 30 Days of Environmental Action through Ecological Repentance
JAKARTA, GARISBUMI.com – A total of 2,649 schools were encouraged to carry out environmental actions with measurable targets for 30 days through the "Ecological Repentance Towards Environmentally Cultured Schools" movement. This step includes waste management, improving sanitation, as well as conserving water, energy and biodiversity.
The movement was declared in Jakarta, Monday (12/10/2026), to mark two decades of the Adiwiyata Program. The Ministry of the Environment/Environmental Control Agency (KLH/Environmental Management Agency (BPLH)) is collaborating with the Ministry of Religion and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to mobilize participating schools in 38 provinces and 514 districts/cities.
Minister of the Environment/Head of Environmental Management Agency (BPLH) Moh Jumhur Hidayat emphasized that ecological repentance must be realized through behavioral changes and consistent environmental restoration steps.
According to him, change starts with awareness of admitting mistakes against nature, stopping destructive habits, and taking responsibility for the impacts.
"Changes in behavior require moral awareness, religious values and law enforcement. Concern also needs to be supported by a system that allows people to act correctly, including waste management facilities and responsibility for environmental impacts," stressed Jumhur.
In schools, these principles need to be translated into daily habits so that students' concern grows into actions that are continuously maintained.
