Indonesia Unites 13 East Asian Countries to Face Transboundary Air Pollution
TANGERANG, GARISBUMI.com – Indonesia is strengthening its role in regional environmental diplomacy by bringing together 13 East Asian countries to discuss the threat of cross-border air pollution, including the dangerous particles PM2.5.
The meeting took place in the Senior Technical Managers’ The 27th meeting of the Acid Deposition Monitoring Network in East Asia or EANET, which was held on 2–3 September 2026 in South Tangerang and Jakarta.
The Ministry of the Environment/Environmental Control Agency (KLH/Environmental Management Agency (BPLH)) through the Center for Environmental Control Facilities (Pusarpedal) hosted the forum.
This meeting is a space for member countries to harmonize methods for monitoring air quality and atmospheric deposition. The data obtained is expected to become the basis for formulating air pollution control policies based on scientific evidence.
Head of Pusarpedal KLH/Environmental Management Agency (BPLH), Sinta Saptarina Soemiarno, said that Indonesia has joined EANET since 1998. This collaboration is considered to play an important role in strengthening air quality monitoring in the region.
“Indonesia, which has been a member of EANET since 1998, appreciates this long-term cooperation as an important platform in the field of atmospheric deposition and air quality,” said Sinta.
According to him, the EANET forum is needed to improve scientific understanding, standardize monitoring methodology, and support the development of evidence-based policies in East Asian countries.
