West Sumatra Prepares 30 Year Environmental Plan, Arranges Four Scenarios
PADANG, GARISBUMI.com – The West Sumatra Provincial Government has prepared four environmental future scenarios as a basis for environmental protection planning for the next 30 years. This preparation is aimed at ensuring that economic development takes into account environmental capabilities and regional resilience to climate change.
The four alternatives include Moderate, Optimistic, Pessimistic and Transformative scenarios. The West Sumatra Provincial Government explained this in the Environmental Protection and Management Scenario Preparation (PPLH) forum in Padang, Thursday (8/10/2026), with assistance from the Ministry of the Environment/Environmental Control Agency (KLH/Environmental Management Agency (BPLH)).
This forum is part of the preparation of the West Sumatra Province Environmental Protection and Management Plan (RPPLH) which will be determined through regional regulations.
Director of Sustainable Natural Resources Management at KLH/Environmental Management Agency (BPLH) Hariani Samal said that the RPPLH must be the basis for regional development decision making.
"RPPLH must be able to bridge the ecological conditions of the region with the direction of economic policy, so that the growth achieved still maintains the preservation of environmental functions," said Hariani.
This document was prepared as a guideline for environmental protection and management for 30 years. Its preparation refers to Government Regulation Number 26 of 2025 concerning Environmental Protection and Management Planning and Minister of the Environment Regulation Number 27 of 2025.
