Sorting Waste in Kalianyar, Two RWs Reduce Waste to Bantargebang by up to 50 Percent
WEST JAKARTA, GARISBUMI.com – Sorting and processing waste from home has begun to reduce the burden of waste in Kalianyar Village, Tambora District, West Jakarta. In RW 03 and RW 04, this step was reportedly able to reduce the volume of waste disposed of at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) by around 50 percent.
This achievement is part of a movement carried out by nine RWs in Kalianyar in accordance with the Instruction of the Governor of DKI Jakarta Number 5 of 2026 concerning the Movement for Sorting and Processing Waste from Source. However, limited land is still a challenge to expand waste processing in densely populated areas.
Chairman of RW 03 Kalianyar, Agus Kardi, said that waste sorting socialization has been carried out since July 2026. In the last two months, his party has also worked on building a waste terminal as an organic waste processing facility.
"Before the implementation of Gubernatorial Instruction Number 5 of 2026, the waste produced every day was around two quintals. After being sorted and processed, the volume was reduced by 50 percent," said Agus, Tuesday (13/10/2026).
According to Agus, organic waste is processed into compost, while inorganic waste is sorted for further processing. Processing in local communities means that some waste can be handled before being transported to the next processing site.
Even though the results have been shown, Agus believes that waste management still requires assistance and support from related regional officials, especially the DKI Jakarta Environmental Service.
