Only 25 Percent of National Waste is Managed, Producers Will Have to Pay Packaging Fees
JAKARTA, GARISBUMI.com – Indonesia produces around 144,562 tons of waste every day, but only 25 percent of it has been recorded as having been managed. To improve this condition, the government is preparing regulations that require producers and importers to participate in financing the withdrawal and management of the packaging waste they distribute.
Edit
This plan is part of the revision of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation Number 75 of 2018 concerning the Roadmap for Waste Reduction by Producers.
Edit
Deputy for Waste, Waste and Hazardous and Toxic Materials Management at KLH/Environmental Management Agency (BPLH) Vinda Damayanti Ansjar explained that the government will strengthen the implementation of extended producer responsibility (EPR).
Edit
In the draft regulations, producers will form a Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO). This non-profit institution is tasked with managing funds collected from producers to collect and handle packaging waste.
