Indonesia Aims for Green Investment at COP31 through the Carbon Market
Investment Opportunities from Agriculture to Waste Management
Green investment opportunities that will be encouraged include forest and land management, energy, industry, agriculture, waste management, and blue carbon in marine and coastal areas.
In the food sector, the government is encouraging increased productivity through innovation and environmentally friendly technology. Approaches that can be developed include smart agriculture, sustainable aquaculture, low-emission rice, and silvofishery which combines fisheries cultivation with mangrove conservation.
Management, conservation and restoration of degraded land is also part of the agenda. Apart from supporting carbon absorption, land restoration is expected to open up productive economic activities for the community.
In the waste sector, improving the management system is aimed at reducing methane emissions and strengthening the circular economy. Utilizing waste into energy through the waste to energy approach, which was developed together with Danantara and local governments, is expected to help deal with urban waste while supporting energy security.
Meanwhile, the development of blue carbon is directed at protecting marine and coastal ecosystems, including mangroves which absorb and store carbon. The government emphasizes the need to empower coastal communities so that economic and environmental benefits can be felt in a sustainable manner.
Research and innovation support, including from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), is considered important to accelerate the application of technology according to national needs and increase the use of domestic component levels (TKDN).
