SERANG, GARISBUMI.com – The National Energy Council (DEN) is encouraging the development of solar power plants (PLTS) with a capacity of 100 gigawatt peak (GWp) as well as increasing the use of bioethanol as a gasoline mixture. It is hoped that the use of domestic energy will help reduce Indonesia's dependence on energy imports.

DEN member Saleh Abdurrahman said that Indonesia still depends on imports of oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in large quantities. Developing domestic energy sources is an important part of strengthening national energy resilience, independence and sovereignty.

This was conveyed by Saleh in the Socialization of the National Energy Policy (KEN) at Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University (Untirta), Serang Regency, Tuesday (13/10/2026).

According to Saleh, the development of PLTS is one of the government's strategies for expanding domestic energy use. Meanwhile, increasing the bioethanol mixture in gasoline is expected to reduce the need for oil-based fuel.

"So if we can achieve that, then our import dependence will decrease," he said.

Saleh explained that Indonesia has large renewable energy potential, including solar power, geothermal energy, hydropower and biomass. However, its use requires investment and adequate financial support.

According to him, limited government budgets and the funding capacity of domestic business actors are challenges in accelerating the development of renewable energy. Investment support is needed to build infrastructure and increase the utilization of these energy sources.
