LamiPak Targets Purchase of REC Equivalent to 10,000 MWh from Orya Genyem Hydroelectric Power Plant
SERANG, GARISBUMI.com – PT Lami Packaging Indonesia (LamiPak) targets purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) equivalent to around 10,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) in 2026 through collaboration with PT Energy Management Indonesia (Persero) or PLN EMI.
The certificate comes from the renewable energy electricity production of the Orya Genyem Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) in Papua. The purchase commitment is stated in a two-year term agreement signed in Cikande, Serang, Banten, on Monday (5/10/2026).
PLN EMI President Director Henri Firdaus said that the participation of the industrial sector in purchasing RECs could expand support for the development of renewable energy in Indonesia.
According to him, this mechanism opens up opportunities for companies to support the use of clean energy while incorporating sustainability aspects into business activities.
"LamiPak's involvement shows that the industrial sector has a role in encouraging the use of renewable energy. We hope that this step can be followed by other companies so that efforts to accelerate the energy transition in Indonesia become wider," said Henri, Tuesday (13/10/2026).
Meanwhile, Director of PT Lami Packaging Indonesia Hongbiao Li said that the purchase of REC was part of the company's commitment to strengthening the implementation of sustainability principles in packaging industry operations.
It is hoped that cooperation with PLN EMI will continue to develop to support the use of clean energy and strengthen the company's contribution to the national energy transition.
