Bali Governor Wayan Koster emphasized the importance of protecting the environment and culture and ensuring that tourism growth provides economic benefits for the community

BADUNG, GARISBUMI.com – Bali projects foreign tourist visits to reach 7.1 million to 7.2 million throughout 2026. In the midst of this growth, waste management, energy supply and business order are issues that need to be addressed to maintain the sustainability of tourism.

Bali Governor Wayan Koster emphasized that the success of tourism needs to be measured by the economic benefits for the community as well as the preservation of the environment, customs and culture.

This view was conveyed at the opening of the XV Regional Conference of the Association of the Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies (ASITA) Bali in Jimbaran, Badung, Friday (16/10/2026), as published by the Bali Provincial Government on 23 October 2026.

According to data submitted by Koster, foreign tourist visits from January to September 30 2026 reached 5.2 million. He estimates that the number of visits by the end of the year will exceed the 2025 achievement, which is said to reach 7.05 million.

Waste Management is a Concern

Koster places waste management as one of the basic needs in maintaining the quality of Bali's environment. The provincial government is encouraging the development of Waste to Electrical Energy (PSEL) processing facilities as part of this effort.

However, the provincial government's statement has not detailed the location, processing capacity, operational schedule, or steps to control the environmental impact of the planned facilities.

Apart from waste, the Bali Provincial Government is encouraging strengthening electricity supplies to reduce dependence on the undersea cable network from Java.
