Deputy Minister of the Environment Diaz Hendropriyono inspects the Sukawinatan Landfill, Palembang City, Thursday (8/10/2026)

PALEMBANG, GARISBUMI.com – Sukawinatan Final Processing Site (TPA), Palembang City, no longer accepts waste. However, the management is still asked to follow up on administrative sanctions related to open dumping practices, including through the construction of a leachate treatment plant.

This request was conveyed by the Deputy Minister of the Environment/Deputy Head of the Environmental Control Agency (KLH/Environmental Management Agency (BPLH)) Diaz Hendropriyono when inspecting the Sukawinatan TPA, Thursday (8/10/2026), as conveyed in a statement from the KLH/Environmental Management Agency (BPLH) Public Relations Bureau on Saturday (10/10/2026).

In the review, it was discovered that construction of a Waste Water Treatment Plant (IPAL) to treat leachate would begin soon. This step is part of environmental restoration efforts in the landfill area.

"We hope for cooperation from the Sukawinatan TPA to continue implementing the provisions of the administrative sanctions, this sanction is so that we can improve the TPA together, not to punish, I appreciate here that an IPAL will soon be built to treat the leachate water," said Diaz.

According to Diaz, managers need to continue to fulfill the provisions of administrative sanctions so that improvements in TPA management can take place.

He also emphasized that the practice of open dumping or open disposal of waste is prohibited under Law Number 18 of 2008 concerning Waste Management. The Minister of Environment/Head of Environmental Management Agency (BPLH) has sent a letter to regional heads to immediately take steps to restore the landfill.
