Stella Christie Encourages Campuses to Prepare Graduates for the Renewable Energy Industry
JAKARTA, GARISBUMI.com – Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Stella Christie is encouraging mapping of the workforce needs for the renewable energy industry so that universities can prepare student competencies from the start of their studies. This step is needed to reduce the gap between graduate abilities and the needs of the world of work.
Stella conveyed this in a meeting with METI Energi Muda at the Office of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek), Jakarta, Wednesday (7/10/2026).
This meeting was the initial stage for identifying industry needs, problems that could be answered through research, and the readiness of human resources in higher education.
"So what is the demand for the renewable energy industry, so that we can prepare our students earlier and more carefully for higher education. Don't wait until they graduate, then there is a gap, or even this gap is difficult to close," said Stella.
According to him, information on industry needs needs to be obtained early so that the competencies built during college are more suited to the jobs students will face after graduating.
Polytechnics Play a Role in Preparing Solar Energy Power
During the meeting, labor needs were also linked to the 100 GWp Solar Power Plant (PLTS) Program which is being developed by the government. Higher education, especially polytechnics, is discussed as an important part in preparing graduates with solar energy competencies.
Mapping will look at labor needs and industrial skills, then match them with the availability of talent and study programs in universities.
