Plastic Waste and Sediment Cleaned in Rawa Badak Selatan Reservoir, Koja to Anticipate Flooding
GARISBUMI.com โ JAKARTA, GARISBUMI.com | Plastic waste and weeds on the surface of the water as well as mud deposits in the channels around the Rawa Badak Selatan Reservoir were the targets of mass community service work in Koja District, North Jakarta, Sunday (1/11/2026). The area was cleaned as an effort to anticipate potential flooding.
According to information from the North Jakarta City Government, the activity involved hundreds of participants from government and community elements. Koja Deputy Sub-District Head Shalih Nopiansyar led the preparation roll call which started at 07.00 WIB.
Cleaning targets channels and water surfaces
Officers and residents removed mud and sediment from the water channels around the reservoir. They also cleaned up plastic waste and weeds, including water hyacinth, which covered the water surface.
Along the reservoir's pedestrian path, activities include tree branch fires. Public Infrastructure and Facilities Handling Officers (PPSU) were also deployed with the support of operational vehicles to transport the collected waste.
Salih said cleaning the reservoir area was a preventative measure, especially to deal with the rainy season. He emphasized the importance of cooperation between the government and residents in protecting water bodies and surrounding channels.
"Today's community service activity is not just about physically cleaning the environment, but is a momentum to strengthen the culture of mutual cooperation in the community. The Rawa Badak Selatan Reservoir has a vital function as flood control and a space for community interaction, so we must maintain its beauty and smoothness together," said Shalih.
