Pasir Bajing Landfill Reopens, Garut Deputy Regent Encourages Waste Management from Upstream
GARUT, GARISBUMI.com – The reopening of the Pasir Bajing Final Processing Site (TPA) after the fire has provided momentum for the Garut Regency Government to improve waste management. Deputy Regent of Garut Putri Karlina emphasized that handling must start from the source of the waste, including households, offices, schools and companies.
Putri conveyed this message when leading a joint rally at the Garut Regency Regional Secretariat Field, Jalan Pembangunan, Tarogong Kidul District, Monday (19/10/2026).
According to Putri, the restoration of Pasir Bajing TPA services should not mean that the waste problem is considered resolved. The disruption caused by fire actually needs to be a turning point to improve the waste system in Garut.
"I need to remind you once again that the reopening of the Pasir Bajing TPA is not the final result, but this is actually a momentum for us to have a turning point in improving the waste system, especially in Garut Regency," he said.
Putri appreciated regional officials and all parties involved in the restoration of Pasir Bajing TPA. However, these efforts need to be followed by improvements so that people are not completely dependent on the final processing site.
Households and Companies Have a Role
To formulate treatment after the landfill reopens, Putri has involved experts, environmental activists and young groups through collaboration and environmental workshops.
From this discussion, waste management from upstream is the main concern. Putri explained that upstream is where waste is first generated.
