11 Indonesian Students Study Clean Energy at the Bengkok Bandung Hydroelectric Power Plant
BANDUNG, GARISBUMI.com – Eleven high school students from various regions in Indonesia had the opportunity to see firsthand the process of changing water flow into electrical energy at the Bengkok Hydroelectric Power Plant, Bandung, West Java.
The visit was part of the Get to Know the Environment with Young People (KELANA) Episode 4 program organized by the Ministry of the Environment/Environmental Control Agency (KLH/Environmental Management Agency (BPLH)) together with PLN Indonesia Power.
The program, which was held in the context of World Lakes Day 2026, aims to introduce water resource conservation, environmental management and energy transition to the younger generation.
Eleven participants were selected to take part in activities with Miss Indonesia Environment 2026 Victoria Titiasari Kosasieputri. A number of participants were even traveling outside their home area for the first time.
Learn How Water Produces Electricity
Bengkok Hydroelectric Power Plant was the first location visited by the participants. This historic plant, which has been operating since 1923, utilizes the flow of the Cikapundung River to produce electrical power.
At this facility, participants saw directly a number of generating equipment, including turbines and generators, which they previously only learned about through textbooks.
Victoria said that this experience helped students understand the application of hydroelectric power generation technology directly.
