Javanese bull calf born in Pangandaran, Purbajapa population becomes seven
GARISBUMI.com – PANGANDARAN, GARISBUMI.COM | A male Javan bull calf (Bos javanicus) was born at the Pangandaran Javanese Bull Reintroduction Center (Purbajapa), Pananjung Pangandaran Nature Reserve, West Java. The third birth in this semi-natural breeding program brings the number of bulls at the location to seven.
According to information from the Ministry of Forestry, the bull calf was born on Tuesday (27/10/2026) at around 22.23 WIB from the female mother Bindi and the male Senta. The medical team is still monitoring the condition of the child and mother to ensure the health of both.
The addition of individuals is an important development for a program aimed at increasing the Javan bull population. However, the number of seven animals is the population managed in Purbajapa, not the total number of bulls in the Pananjung Pangandaran Nature Reserve or on the island of Java.
Third birth since the program began
Purbajapa began with four bulls that were released in conjunction with the inauguration of the reintroduction center on December 11 2024. According to the Ministry of Forestry, this step marks the return of Javan bulls to the Pananjung Pangandaran Nature Reserve after being declared missing from the area since 2003.
The initial four individuals consisted of two females and two males from three Indonesian Safari Park conservation institutions. Uchi females come from Bogor, while Bindi comes from Prigen. Two males, Bejo and Senta, come from Gianyar, Bali.
The first birth was recorded from mother Uchi on July 27 2025, followed by the birth from Bindi on August 7 2025.
