DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and Bekasi Mayor Tri Adhianto Tjahyono show documents on cooperation in managing the Bantargebang TPST at Jakarta City Hall, Monday (26/10/2026)

JAKARTA, GARISBUMI.com – Jakarta produces around 9,000 tons of waste every day. In the midst of this large generation, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government said that changes in management and sorting had reduced waste shipments to the Bantargebang TPST by around 500 tons per day.

DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung conveyed this when signing a cooperation agreement for the management of the Bantargebang TPST with the Bekasi City Government at Jakarta City Hall, Monday (26/10/2026). This collaboration is valid for the next five years.

Reducing incoming waste is an important part of handling Bantargebang. The problem includes the waste that Jakarta continues to produce as well as the piles that are already at the processing location.

Pramono said waste processing would be supported by the Rorotan and Bantargebang Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) facilities. RDF is an alternative fuel resulting from waste processing. The Jakarta Provincial Government is also planning the construction of three waste-fired power generation facilities.

Other efforts include strengthening waste processing sites with the principles of reducing, reusing and recycling or 3R TPS, including waste management from hotels, restaurants and cafes.

Pramono expressed his hope that the waste balance will reach zero by 2028 if all efforts run smoothly. However, the statement does not specify the indicators or scope of the zero target in question.
