Forest Data Needs to be Updated so that Land Protection and Utilization is Right on Target

MAKASSAR, GARISBUMI.com – Updating forest area data and the use of geospatial information are encouraged to be the basis for determining the protection, rehabilitation and utilization of forests in Kalimantan and Sulawesi. Forestry planning is expected to be able to direct activities in the field while paying attention to community needs.

Acting South Sulawesi Regional Secretary Andi Winarno Eka Putra conveyed this during the socialization of the National Level Forestry Plan (RKTN) for the Kalimantan and Sulawesi regions in Makassar, Thursday (22/10/2026).

"I also emphasize the importance of utilizing geospatial information and updating forest area data as a basis for decision making," he said.

According to Andi Winarno, forestry planning needs to be used to determine priorities, direct investment, control space use, and evaluate development results. Thus, the documents prepared have a real function in area management.

He emphasized the need for a harmonious relationship between national plans, Provincial Forestry Plans (RKTP), and Long Term Forest Management Plans (RPHJP) at the Forest Management Unit (KPH) level.

This integration is needed so that forest protection, land rehabilitation, community empowerment and forestry business development support each other.

"Provincial Forestry Plans must be able to translate national directives into forestry development priorities that are in accordance with regional characteristics, forest resource potential, community needs and regional development directions," he said.
