Forest and Land Fire Smoke Threatens Vulnerable Groups, DKI Baznas Bazis Prepares Services in Palangka Raya
JAKARTA, GARISBUMI.com – Toddlers and the elderly are priority protection in the assistance program for residents affected by smoke from forest and land fires (karhutla) in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan (Kalteng). Through the "Breath for the Nation" program, Baznas Bazis DKI Jakarta is preparing temporary health facilities, home medical visits and logistical assistance.
The program, which is scheduled to take place from 30 October to 6 November 2026, targets around 1,500 beneficiaries. The implementation was coordinated with Baznas RI and Baznas Central Kalimantan (Kalteng) Province.
Chairman of the DKI Jakarta Baznas Bazis, Akhmad H. Abubakar, said exposure to forest and land fire smoke needs to be a collective concern because of its impact on vulnerable groups.
"This issue needs to be of common concern, especially because the impact is felt by vulnerable groups such as children, toddlers and the elderly who experience difficulty breathing due to exposure to smoke," he said, Saturday (31/10/2026), as quoted from a statement from the Jakarta Provincial Government.
The Oxygen Healthy House is still under preparation
One of the services provided is the Oxygen Healthy Home. This temporary health facility is planned to have what the organizers call a sterile room, oxygen cylinders, nebulizers, and support from health workers.
This facility is intended to help residents who experience respiratory problems due to smoke exposure, especially toddlers and the elderly who require more intensive treatment.
