Deputy Minister of the Environment Diaz Hendropriyono inspects the Sukawinatan Landfill, Palembang City, Thursday (8/10/2026)

Anticipate Fires and Protect Scavengers

The visit was also carried out to ensure the implementation of Circular Letter of the Minister of the Environment Number 11 of 2026 concerning Increasing Fire Preparedness and Anticipation at TPAs in Extreme Hot Weather Conditions.

Diaz asked the management to pay attention to the safety of all people carrying out activities at the landfill, including scavengers who depend on their income from the location. He also reminded that there should be no smoking activities in the landfill area.

"I ask for help to protect the scavengers, I understand this is their livelihood but please be careful about their safety, don't let anyone smoke in the landfill area either," he stressed.

Waste Diverted to PSEL Palembang

According to information from KLH/Environmental Management Agency (BPLH), waste that previously went to the Sukawinatan TPA is now being diverted to the Palembang City Waste to Electrical Energy (PSEL) Processing facility. The facility is being prepared for official operation.

Diaz hopes that the presence of PSEL can improve Palembang City's waste management while producing electrical energy that is beneficial to the community.

"Hopefully with the presence of PSEL, Palembang City's waste can be fully handled and produce electrical energy that is beneficial to the community," he said.
