More than 400 Jakarta students invited to mobilize waste management and school greening
JAKARTA, GARISBUMI.com – The environmental movement in schools requires student involvement in reducing and processing waste as well as planting and caring for trees. This role was encouraged through an Environmental Workshop which was attended by more than 400 members of the Nature Lovers Students (Sispala) throughout DKI Jakarta at Taman Bendera Pusaka, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, Saturday (31/10/2026).
Head of the South Jakarta Region II Education Sub-Department, Sarwoko, hopes that Sispala members can become a driving force who invites their friends to consistently maintain the school environment.
"I hope that the environmental care movement in schools will not only focus on reducing and processing waste, but will also be followed by greening efforts," said Sarwoko, as quoted by Beritajakarta.
The activity initiated by the Nature Lovers Student Alumni Forum (FASTA) together with Sispala raised the theme of integrating green open space, ecogreen, and character education for Jakarta students. Apart from the workshop, participants took part in a tree planting action at Bendera Pusaka Park.
Linking Sispala activities with school waste management
According to Sarwoko, this activity is in line with the School Waste Management (JOSS) program, which encourages waste management from the educational environment.
He said that JOSS had been implemented in various schools in Jakarta. The peak of the activity is planned to take place at Banteng Square on December 19 2026 and is expected to be opened by the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung.
