Jakarta Encourages Waste to be Processed in RWs so that Not All Ends Up in Bantargebang
GARISBUMI.com โ JAKARTA, GARISBUMI.com | Reducing waste sent to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) requires sorting it from home. In RW 06, Srengseng Sawah Subdistrict, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, this effort is supported by composting facilities, transportation equipment and education so that waste that can still be used can be processed in the residents' area.
This support is channeled through the Environmental Large-Scale Social Collaboration Program (KSBB). The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government uses this program to reconcile the community's waste management needs with the support of the business world.
The target is to reduce waste that ends up in Bantargebang by encouraging residents to sort, process and reuse waste that is still useful. However, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government's statement has not mentioned the target or realization of reducing the volume of waste from implementing the program in RW 06.
Sorting requires habits and means
Deputy Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Service (DLH), Purwanti Suryandari, emphasized that the provision of equipment needs to be accompanied by changes in behavior. Waste sorting and processing must be carried out consistently from households.
"Everyone is responsible for the waste they produce by sorting it from home. Waste that can still be processed needs to be separated so it can be reused, so that not everything ends up at the Bantargebang TPST," he said in Jakarta, Thursday (29/10/2026), in a statement from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.
According to Purwanti, support through KSBBEnvironment includes assistance and education so that residents are able to implement sorting in their daily activities.
