SOUTH TANGERANG, GARISBUMI.com – Five plastic bottles can be exchanged for one plant seed in the South Tangerang City Environmental Service (DLH) program at Car Free Day (CFD) BSD, Serpong, Sunday (1/11/2026). Through this exchange, residents are invited to collect plastic waste separately and at the same time start reforestation from home.

DLH Tangsel provided 70 seeds consisting of vegetables, fruit and ornamental plants. Choices include celery, kaffir lime and honey soursop.

Head of DLH South Tangerang City, Bani Khosyatullah, said the program was aimed at reducing the generation of plastic waste and encouraging community involvement in reforestation.

"So we are bringing back the trash-for-plant exchange program at CFD BSD, so residents can exchange the plastic waste that has been collected for plant seeds that DLH Tangsel has provided," said Bani, as conveyed in a statement from DLH Tangsel.

Connecting waste sorting with planting activities

According to Bani, exchanging plastic bottles for seeds is expected to help build the habit of sorting and collecting waste before throwing it away. This habit is part of efforts so that waste can be managed better.

The choice of seeds in this activity was more diverse than the previous implementation which provided a number of fruit plants and ornamental plants. The presence of vegetable seeds opens up options for residents to grow food on the land or space available at home.
