Bantul Becomes a Model for Waste-Free Seas, Prevention Starts from Land
BANTUL, GARISBUMI.com – Bantul Regency will be used as a model for the Healthy Seas Without Waste (Sebasah) movement. Waste management from the source is the main concern so that household waste and activities on land are not carried by rivers and pollute the sea.
This movement was introduced through a declaration, beach clean-up action, sea pine planting, and socialization on waste management at Pandansimo Beach, Poncosari Village, Kapanewon Srandakan, Thursday (22/10/2026).
The activity took place in the Red and White Fisherman's Village (KNMP) area starting at 06.30 WIB, coinciding with the 27th anniversary of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP).
Bantul Regional Secretary Agus Budiraharja emphasized that ocean cleanliness is related to how people handle waste before it enters waterways.
"Managing waste from the source is an important step to prevent waste from being carried by river flows and ending up in the sea," said Agus.
According to him, behavioral changes need to be accompanied by waste management facilities and consistency from all parties so that the movement is sustainable.
The public is invited to sort waste, reduce the use of single-use items, and dispose of waste in the places provided. This step needs to be continued in everyday life, from households to tourist areas.
