47,000 Plastic Bottles Become Decorative Boats, Cilung Festival Invites Residents to Sort Trash
The festival, which is entering its third implementation, is expected to help foster this habit. Creativity in processing used goods is an entry point to encourage residents to reduce waste and reuse materials that are still useful.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Service, Dudi Gardesi Asikin, said that the decorative boats showed the use value of used goods as well as the officers' ability to process them into works.
"Through this creative boat work, we see that waste can be processed into works of artistic value as well as educational facilities for the community. This work is a reflection of the creativity and innovation of the team handling water body waste," explained Dudi.
Waste Education to Compost Distribution
Apart from the boat parade, the 2026 Cilung Festival presents education on waste sorting and processing as well as an exhibition of recycling products created by DKI Jakarta Environmental Service officers.
The series of activities also include stocking fish seeds and spreading ecoenzymes in Lake Sunter. Visitors can get compost from waste processing for free and try riding an environmental love boat.
Dudi hopes that visitors will take home habits that can be implemented every day, starting from reducing single-use plastic, sorting household waste, to reusing items that are still suitable.
Meanwhile, Hendra Hidayat considers the festival to be a creative way to encourage residents to protect North Jakarta's water areas.
