Pekanbaru Smog, Three RTHs and City Parks Closed 14–15 October
PEKANBARU, GARISBUMI.com – The haze which worsens the air quality in Pekanbaru City has caused three public spaces to be temporarily closed again on 14–15 October 2026. The city government is taking this step to reduce the risk of smoke exposure for residents who are active outdoors.
The three locations that were closed were the Putri Kacamayang Green Open Space (RTH), the Green Open Space for Teaching Integrity, and the City Park on Jalan Diponegoro.
Head of the Pekanbaru City Environment and Hygiene Service (DLHK), Reza Aulia Putra, said the closure was carried out again because the air quality had not shown improvement.
"We are closing again temporarily, because the air quality has not improved," said Reza, Wednesday (14/10/2026).
According to him, closing green open spaces and city parks is an anticipatory step to protect public health, especially visitors who do activities in open spaces.
This policy is in line with the re-introduction of distance learning (PJJ) for PAUD to SMP students in Pekanbaru due to air conditions that have not improved.
In a statement provided by the Pekanbaru City Ministry of Communication and Information, data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) shows that air quality based on the concentration of PM2.5 fine particulates is in the very unhealthy category.
