Nearly 21 Years of Handling Forest and Land Fires, Haris Pushes to Strengthen Manggala Agni Technology
OGAN KOMERING ILIR, GARISBUMI.com – Having served as a member of Manggala Agni for almost 21 years, Haris Suyanto hopes that strengthening technology and professionalism will continue to be a concern in controlling forest and land fires (karhutla).
The 42 year old man who works at Daops Sumatra XVII, Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) area, South Sumatra (Sumsel), said that the use of technology can support the work of officers in the field. One of the devices currently being used is a drone with a thermal camera.
"The hope is that in the future it will be even more professional, more advanced, equipped with technology, not just existing equipment," said Haris, Wednesday (14/10/2026).
According to him, thermal drones help officers detect heat through cameras. The use of this device complements the forest and land fire control equipment that is already available.
Haris, whose daily duties are as Public Relations Coordinator and Deputy Head of Team IV in his area, also hopes that Daops OKI will continue to develop as a training place for forest and land fire fighters.
He said that a fire team from France had come to study. This experience is an encouragement to continue improving personnel capabilities and technological support.
