Garbage and Cigarette Smoke Threaten Healthy Air, Tigaraksa Regional Hospital Invites Residents to Reduce Exposure
TANGERANG, GARISBUMI.com – Protection from air pollution needs to start from the immediate environment, including stopping burning rubbish and avoiding cigarette smoke in the house. This message was conveyed by the Environmental Sanitation Team at Tigaraksa Regional Hospital during counseling in the hospital registration waiting room, Thursday (22/10/2026).
Through this activity, the public is invited to recognize sources of pollution they encounter every day. Apart from burning rubbish and cigarette smoke, sources include motor vehicles, industry, road and construction dust, as well as forest and land fires.
In their outreach material, the team explains that exposure to air pollution can cause eye, nose and throat irritation, coughing and shortness of breath. Exposure can also trigger or worsen asthma, lung disorders, and heart disease.
Children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with comorbidities are groups that need more attention because they are vulnerable to the impacts of pollution.
The Environmental Sanitation Team at Tigaraksa Regional Hospital, consisting of Hamisah, Lulu Ma'sumah, and Indah Lusitasari, recommends that residents monitor air quality through applications or monitoring sites before carrying out activities.
When air quality is unhealthy, people are advised to reduce outdoor activities. If you have to go out when pollution is high, residents are advised to wear masks that fit tightly.
Reducing exposure also needs to be accompanied by efforts to reduce sources of pollution. Residents are invited to manage waste properly, not burn it, maintain vehicles regularly, and reduce vehicle use if possible.
