Children take part in learning activities at PAUD Kenanga, Semper Barat Village, Cilincing District, North Jakarta. This PAUD is connected to the Kenanga Waste Bank program which allows parents to use waste savings to help with their children's education costs

Clean Plastic Bottles Priced at IDR 4,500 per Kilogram

According to Nur Lela, clean plastic bottles that are deposited directly to schools are priced at IDR 4,500 per kilogram. For ball pick-up services, the price given is around IDR 3,000 to IDR 3,500 per kilogram.

The price difference depends on the type of deposit service. The waste with sale value is then distributed to partner collectors, while some of the material is used to make flower pots, vases and plastic crafts.

"Waste management not only reduces waste, but also opens up opportunities for reusing materials that still have use value," said Nur Lela.

Currently, the Kenanga Waste Bank has 823 customers who participate in collecting waste of economic value.

Kenanga PAUD began operating in 2021, a year after the waste bank was initiated. This institution now serves 20 students with the assistance of four teaching staff.

Learning is divided into two sessions, 08.00–09.30 WIB and 10.00–11.30 WIB. Nur Lela said the first session also accommodated children with special needs.

Through activities connected to the school, waste sorting becomes part of the family's daily life. For parents like Ratnasari, materials collected from home have a new use: helping their children's educational needs.
