Former Keputih Tegal TPA Reorganized, Surabaya Prepares Harmoni Park for Night Tours
SURABAYA, GARISBUMI.com – The Surabaya City Government is organizing the area of the former Keputih Tegal Final Processing Site (TPA), Sukolilo District, through reforestation and park improvements. This arrangement will also support plans to develop Taman Harmoni as a night tourism destination in 2027.
The initial step was taken by controlling and cleaning up illegal waste management business activities on city government asset land, Thursday (1/10/2026). The area that has been cleaned will then be planted with various types of trees.
"So after we carry out the controlling and cleaning, we will plant various trees," said Head of the Surabaya City Environmental Service (DLH) M Fikser on the sidelines of the controlling activities.
According to Fikser, previous waste sorting activities disrupted the function of a number of parks in Keputih Tegal. The sorted material is piled up in the park area, damaging the condition of the green space.
"Now the PUPR park has been in disrepair for a long time, because they piled up the goods resulting from sorting (waste) in PUPR Park," he said.
After controlling, the Surabaya City Government will repair, maintain and replant parks in the area. Road asphalting and installation of public street lighting (PJU) will also be proposed to support visitor access and comfort.
"Well, after this, we will repair the park, look after it, guard it and plant it again. Later we will propose to asphalt this area, make it better, install PJUs so that it is bright, so that people want to come here," he explained.
