West Kalimantan Forest Youthverse Resilience (FYVR) Summit participants took part in field learning to get to know environmental issues and develop ideas for forest conservation. This activity involved 67 young people in efforts to prevent forest and land fires and strengthen environmental awareness

WEST KALIMANTAN (KALBAR, GARISBUMI.com – A total of 67 young people from West Kalimantan (Kalbar) designed ideas for preventing forest and land fires (karhutla) through the Forest Youthverse Resilience (FYVR) Summit. They also studied with Manggala Agni to understand the challenges of controlling fires in the field.

Participants who are members of 11 Forest Conservation Generation (Genries) groups presented their respective innovations, benefits and action plans. The ideas that emerged included preventing forest and land fires, utilizing wood waste, and youth-based mangrove conservation and digital technology.

The FYVR Summit was organized by the Forest Conservation Generation Development Center (Pusgenri), the Human Resources Extension and Development Agency (BP2SDM) of the Ministry of Forestry, together with the Sustainable Forest Management Center (BPHL) Region X Pontianak and the Faculty of Forestry, Tanjungpura University.

"Preventing forest and land fires requires the involvement of many parties, including the younger generation. Through Forest Youthverse Resilience, we hope Genries will be able to bring ideas, creativity and new ways to help prevent forest fires while protecting West Kalimantan (Kalbar)'s forests," said Irwan.

Learn Prevention and Extinguishing with Manggala Agni

Through the Fireline Experience session, participants learned with Manggala Agni Daops Kalimantan VIII/Pontianak. They get to know the equipment, take part in firefighting simulations, and learn safety procedures.

This lesson emphasizes the importance of prevention before a fire develops into a fire. Controlling forest and land fires requires the involvement of various parties from an early age, not just action when a fire occurs.

Head of Pusgenri Ministry of Forestry, Luckmi Purwandari, said field experience is needed so that the younger generation's understanding of forest issues is not limited to lessons in class or information from the media.

"We want the younger generation not only to know about forest and forest and land fires issues, but to see firsthand how these challenges are faced in the field. From this experience, they learn to read about the problems, discuss them, and look for ways to take part," said Luckmi.

From Fireguard to Utilizing Wood Waste

A number of ideas presented by participants included Fireguard, Smokehouse, Burn Block, West Kalimantan (Kalbar) Fireguard with the slogan "Dry Season, Peat is Safe", Sigap Rimba, and SI-GABUS.

Other groups proposed rehabilitation and reforestation, the use of sawmill waste to reduce open burning, as well as youth-based mangrove empowerment and digital technology. There are also ideas for managing river watersheds (DAS), providing clean water, and the One Person One Tree movement.

The Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, Tanjungpura University, Farah Diba, encouraged participants to develop ideas through collaboration with various parties.

"Don't be afraid to try, go into the field and create something new. You don't have to do everything yourself. Build collaboration with campuses, government, society, communities and various parties so that ideas can continue to develop," said Farah.

With the theme "Forest Youth for Resilient Forests: Resilient Generation to Handle Forest and Land Fires, Strengthen Forests, Realize a Sustainable Future", the FYVR Summit provides space for participants to translate field experiences into proposed solutions.

Pusgenri encourages the idea not to stop at the presentation stage. It is hoped that its development will continue through assistance and collaboration with universities, technical implementation units of the Ministry of Forestry, local governments, society, communities and other partners.
