67 West Kalimantan (Kalbar) Young People Initiate Innovations to Prevent Forest and Land Fires through the FYVR Summit

Head of Pusgenri Ministry of Forestry, Luckmi Purwandari, said field experience is needed so that the younger generation's understanding of forest issues is not limited to lessons in class or information from the media.

"We want the younger generation not only to know about forest and forest and land fires issues, but to see firsthand how these challenges are faced in the field. From this experience, they learn to read about the problems, discuss them, and look for ways to take part," said Luckmi.

From Fireguard to Utilizing Wood Waste

A number of ideas presented by participants included Fireguard, Smokehouse, Burn Block, West Kalimantan (Kalbar) Fireguard with the slogan "Dry Season, Peat is Safe", Sigap Rimba, and SI-GABUS.

Other groups proposed rehabilitation and reforestation, the use of sawmill waste to reduce open burning, as well as youth-based mangrove empowerment and digital technology. There are also ideas for managing river watersheds (DAS), providing clean water, and the One Person One Tree movement.

The Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, Tanjungpura University, Farah Diba, encouraged participants to develop ideas through collaboration with various parties.

"Don't be afraid to try, go into the field and create something new. You don't have to do everything yourself. Build collaboration with campuses, government, society, communities and various parties so that ideas can continue to develop," said Farah.

With the theme "Forest Youth for Resilient Forests: Resilient Generation to Handle Forest and Land Fires, Strengthen Forests, Realize a Sustainable Future", the FYVR Summit provides space for participants to translate field experiences into proposed solutions.
