45 Young People Explore Dramaga Forest to Complete Biodiversity Data
BOGOR, GARISBUMI.com – A total of 45 young people explored the Dramaga Research Forest, Bogor, West Java, to observe and document biodiversity through the Forest Youthverse Bio-Discovery Expedition 2026, Saturday, August 29 2026.
The expedition, which was held by the Center for Development of Generations of Forest Conservationists, was aimed at introducing participants to the importance of biodiversity data as a basis for area management and conservation.
Participants were divided into a number of observation groups, including birds or aves, mammals, butterflies, flora, and herpetofauna which included reptiles and amphibians.
They were accompanied by academics and experts, including from IPB University and the Center for Sustainable Forest Research and Development.
During field activities, participants learn to recognize species, observe habitats, record findings and see parts of biodiversity information that still need to be explored further.
The expedition theme uses the term “data deficient” to emphasize that there is still incomplete biodiversity information. In the context of this activity, the term refers to a lack of information that needs to be sought and supplemented, not automatically the official conservation status of a species.
Head of the Center for Generation Development of Forest Conservationists, Luckmi Purwandari, said that the younger generation needs to have the opportunity not only to get to know biodiversity, but also to be involved in the process of finding and documenting data to support conservation.
