South Sumatra (Sumsel) Young People Learn to Prevent Forest and Land Fires Before the Fire Grows

PALEMBANG, GARISBUMI.com – A number of young people in South Sumatra (Sumsel) learned directly about peat ecosystems, preventing forest and land fires, and how to turn environmental concern into real activities through the Forest Youthverse Resilience Summit South Sumatra (Sumsel) 2026.

The activity took place in Palembang and was part of the program with the theme “peatland ecosystem & Fire Resilience: Building the Resilience of Peat Ecosystems and Young Generation to Prevent Forest and Land Fires”. The Youth Talk session was held on Saturday, August 29 2026.

Previous participants also saw the Daops Manggala Agni Training Center directly to get to know the equipment and how to prevent and handle fires in the field.

Head of the Center for Generation Development of Forest Conservationists, Luckmi Purwandari, said the program was designed so that young people would not stop at knowledge of environmental issues, but would be able to develop ideas and actions.

Four young people were speakers at the Youth Talk, namely Aurellia Chaila Amanta, Sella Islamiah, Indah Suci M., and M. Zaid Pramandhana.

The experiences shared are quite varied.

Aurellia developed chili cultivation as a form of entrepreneurship. Sella learned from developing bamboo forests into ecotourism. Indah shared her experience of carrying out vegetation analysis and getting to know biodiversity in the Mount Dempo area.
