Curik Bali (Leucopsar rothschildi), an endemic animal to Bali which is the target of the Bali BKSDA conservation program with partners. A total of 15 individuals were released in two locations in Tabanan Regency to support the preservation of their population in nature

Two Balinese Curiks Return to Nature After Treatment

Two Balinese curik that were released into the wild at Pura Luhur Besi Kalung were found trapped in a trap cage in Jatiluwih Village, Penebel District, on August 6 2025. After being secured, they were entrusted to FNPF for further treatment.

The release at this location was accompanied by the Guru Piduka Ceremony as part of the agreement to resolve the trap cage installation incident by taking into account traditional values and local wisdom.

Head of the Bali BKSDA, Ratna Hendratmoko, emphasized that preserving Balinese curik requires broader efforts than reintroduction. Habitat protection, preventing illegal hunting and catching, as well as compliance with the provisions for caring for protected animals are important parts so that these birds can live and breed in nature.

He also invited the public to report activities that could potentially threaten the preservation of wildlife. Support from traditional leaders, local governments, communities and conservation partners is needed to maintain the security of the Balinese curik habitat.

BKSDA Bali also appreciates the Begawan Foundation for handing over the birds and FNPF for assisting with rehabilitation and care until the animals are ready to be released.

National Bali Curik Day Still Proposed

Efforts to expand attention to the preservation of Balinese curik are also being carried out through the proposal to establish National Bali Curik Day. The Bali Governor's proposal to the Minister of Forestry is still in process.

It is hoped that the establishment of this commemorative day can strengthen education and encourage community involvement in protecting Bali's endemic animals. Sustainable conservation still depends on protecting habitat and monitoring threats to nature.
