The Ciremai Fire Has Not Been Completely Extinguished, Wind and Lack of Water Are Hampering Handling
KUNINGAN, GARISBUMI.com – Some of the fires in Mount Ciremai National Park (TNGC) have been successfully extinguished. However, officers are still facing steep terrain, distant water sources, and strong winds that change direction and trigger the emergence of new Hotspots.
Around 100 joint personnel were deployed to extinguish the fire and create fire breaks along the edge of the fire. This step was taken to prevent spread towards areas with dense vegetation.
Based on information from the West Java Provincial Government, the fire occurred in the Sipenpen Batu Arca Block, Region I Kuningan, at an altitude of around 1,000 meters above sea level. Burned vegetation included shrubs, reeds, dry litter, and pine stands. The size of the affected area is still being recorded.
West Java BPBD Chief Executive Teten Ali said that the hilly and rocky conditions made it difficult for fire vehicles to access and the movement of officers. The distance of the water source is also an obstacle to handling.
At the same time, winds that change direction carry embers and trigger new fires. Officers continue to monitor the progress of the fire and wind direction from the field post.
The remaining embers are combed, officers are on standby until the evening
Extinguishing is followed by combing or mopping up to deal with remaining embers and prevent the fire from re-igniting.
"We also alerted personnel at vulnerable points at the fire break border until evening," said Teten.
