Participants in the Kulkul PKK Movement and Posyandu collect rubbish in the Mangrove Forest area of Sidakarya Beach, Denpasar, Bali, Sunday (4/10/2026)

DENPASAR, GARISBUMI.com – Garbage from settlements and rivers has the potential to be carried to the coast and sea. This issue became a concern in the collaboration between Sungai Watch, PKK, Posyandu, the community and volunteers when cleaning the Mangrove Forest area at Sidakarya Beach, Denpasar City, Bali, Sunday (4/10/2026).

This action was part of the Kulkul PKK and Posyandu Movement which took place simultaneously in nine districts/cities in Bali. Apart from cleaning the environment, activities are aimed at building habits of reducing and managing waste from home.

River Watch Field Manager, Made Dwi Bagiasa, said that river cleanliness needs to be a collective concern because it is directly related to the condition of coastal areas.

"The hope in the future is not only to clean it, but how we remind the public of the importance of keeping rivers clean because they all flow to our south coast," said Made.

According to him, waste handling needs to be done thoroughly. Education regarding waste management and reduction must be consistent and reach all levels of society.

Collaboration to Protect Rivers and Coasts

Activities in Sidakarya involve the Bali Province PKK Mobilization Team (TP), Denpasar City PKK TP, Sidakarya Village PKK TP, Bali Province Posyandu TP, and Denpasar City Posyandu TP.

Sungai Watch, the community and volunteers are also involved in cleaning up mangrove areas and river flows on the coast of Denpasar.

Made said this activity was Sungai Watch's first collaboration with TP PKK and TP Posyandu Bali Province and Denpasar City. This collaboration is expected to strengthen residents' awareness of the cleanliness of rivers, coasts and seas.

He also appreciated the involvement of the Chair of the TP PKK and Posyandu Bali Province, Putri Koster, in mobilizing cadres to protect the environment.

"We see the enthusiasm of Mother, Mother and Daughter as a spirit to mobilize PKK women to routinely clean the surrounding environment. However, we must be wise in treating waste," he said.

Build Cleaning Habits from Home

The Kulkul PKK and Posyandu movements are held regularly on the first Sunday of every month. Residents are invited to keep their home environment and surrounding areas clean, then expand activities to public spaces.

This movement also encourages maintenance of the telajakan or area on the edge of the road in front of the yard as part of daily environmental cleanliness.

Monitoring and evaluation is carried out in nine districts/cities to support the sustainability of activities. Through this pattern, cleanliness is expected to become a common habit that grows from the smallest environment.

Apart from protecting coastal areas, this activity is expected to strengthen mutual cooperation and community involvement in waste management.
