Saguling Floating PLTS Reaches 47 Percent, Operation Target Shifts to April 2027
WEST BANDUNG, GARISBUMI.com – Construction of the Saguling Floating Solar Power Plant at Saguling Reservoir, West Bandung Regency, West Java, has reached 47 percent. The West Java Provincial Government targets the project to be completed and usable by the end of April 2027.
The latest development was conveyed by the Deputy Governor of West Java Erwan Setiawan at the end of August 2026. The Saguling Floating PLTS was developed by PT PLN through PLN Indonesia Power together with ACWA Power, an energy company from Saudi Arabia.
The project uses the surface of the Saguling Reservoir as a location for installing solar panels so that the need for clearing land for power plants can be reduced.
PLN previously noted that the Saguling Floating PLTS has a peak capacity of 92 megawatts or MWp. The plant is projected to be able to produce more than 130 gigawatt hours of electricity per year, equivalent to the electricity needs of around 24,000 households. PLN also estimates that the project can reduce carbon emissions by up to 104,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year.
When project construction began in October 2025, PLN targeted commercial operations in November 2026. The latest target conveyed by the regional government is the end of April 2027. There has been no official explanation in the latest sources regarding the cause of the schedule change.
General Manager of PLN Central Java Development Unit, Kishartanto Purnomo Putro, said that the development of new renewable energy can utilize local potential without sacrificing the reliability of the electricity system.
According to PLN, electricity from the Saguling Floating PLTS will be integrated into the Java-Bali electricity system.
