MAKASSAR, GARISBUMI.com – Kendari City received an integrated waste management program worth IDR 107 billion through the 2026 Local Service Delivery Improvement Project (LSDP). This support will be used to strengthen waste services from source to final processing, with links to plans to develop waste processing facilities in the Puuwatu TPAS area.

Kendari Mayor Siska Karina Imran received the program during the LSDP handover activity throughout Sulawesi in Makassar City, Tuesday (6/10/2026). The handover was carried out by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya together with the Chair of Commission II DPR RI.

Siska was present accompanied by the Chair of the Kendari City DPRD, La Ode Muh. Inarto and Head of Kendari City Bappeda Muh. Saiful.

"The Kendari City Government expresses its appreciation for the central government's support through the LSDP Aspiration program. This assistance is certainly a great opportunity for us to further strengthen waste services in Kendari City," said Siska.

According to him, improving waste requires comprehensive handling. Services need to include reducing waste from the source, collection, transportation, processing, to final processing.

Therefore, LSDP support is expected to strengthen a more integrated and sustainable waste management system, while improving the quality of services to the community.

Development of Puuwatu Waste Processing Facilities

The LSDP program in Kendari is related to plans to develop waste processing facilities in the Puuwatu TPAS area. Preparations for implementation have received assistance from the Directorate General of Regional Development, Ministry of Home Affairs.

In August 2026, the Directorate General of Regional Development team together with the Kendari City Government discussed the requirements for implementing the program and reviewed the location of the planned facility construction.

Siska emphasized that the Kendari City Government will optimize the support it receives so that it has a real impact on waste services and the quality of the urban environment.

"We will ensure that this program can be utilized optimally for the needs of the people of Kendari City. The most important thing is how this program will really strengthen the waste service system from upstream to downstream," he said.

LSDP is a government project supported by the World Bank through a performance-based grants scheme. This program is designed to increase the capacity of local governments to provide waste management services.

Program support includes institutional strengthening, planning, financing, and provision of facilities and infrastructure. Transporting and processing waste is also part of improvements to reduce waste entering the final processing site.

Waste Sorting Determines Success

Siska reminded that the success of the program does not only depend on infrastructure development. Community involvement in reducing and sorting waste from the source is also needed.

He hopes that central government support can accelerate service improvements while encouraging changes in waste management habits in Kendari.

"The government cannot work alone. We need the support of the community, business world and all stakeholders so that waste management can run sustainably," he said.
