Karhutla in Mojokerto, Forest Restoration Encouraged to Maintain Water Management
MOJOKERTO, GARISBUMI.com – Restoring the function of forests as guardians of water systems and supporting community life is a concern in handling forest and land fires (karhutla) in Mojokerto Regency. Areas affected by fires need to be rehabilitated, accompanied by strengthening prevention measures so that similar incidents do not recur.
Mojokerto Deputy Regent Muhammad Rizal Octavian emphasized this at the 2026 Forest and Forestry Risk Management Coordination Meeting at the Graha Maja Tama Pendopo, Monday (26/10/2026).
"I also emphasize that after the fire has been successfully extinguished, we must ensure that efforts are made to rehabilitate and restore the environment," said Rizal, as quoted by the Mojokerto Regency Diskominfo.
According to Rizal, forests have functions that are directly related to the lives of residents, starting from maintaining biodiversity, regulating water management, to protecting the surrounding residential environment. Therefore, restoration of affected areas needs to be part of the overall handling of forest and land fires.
He mentioned the fires that occurred in the Anjasmoro Mountains and the Raden Soerjo Grand Forest Park area as a reminder that Mojokerto is also facing this threat. Dry environmental conditions, flammable vegetation, and fire locations that are difficult to reach can increase handling challenges.
Map Vulnerable Areas and Strengthen Early Detection
Rizal asked all parties to strengthen preparedness from the start. Steps being encouraged include mapping vulnerable areas, patrolling and early detection, as well as preparing personnel and equipment.
