Minister of Environment/Head of BPLH Moh. Jumhur Hidayat expressed Indonesia's views at the Pre-COP31 forum in Nadi, Fiji, Tuesday (6/10/2026)

Support for Small Island States

The forum adopted the Taku Pakasoa Declaration as a form of support for small island developing countries (SIDS) and least developed countries (LDC).

The declaration encourages strengthening mitigation, handling the impacts of climate change, and resilience in facing the risk of loss and damage.

Tuvalu is one of the countries that has voiced the urgency of dealing with sea level rise. This threat is directly related to the territorial sustainability and lives of the people of small island countries in the Pacific.

Indonesia Reveals Net Zero Emissions Target

In the forum, Indonesia explained the direction of climate policy through nationally determined contributions (NDC), towards net zero emissions by 2060 or sooner.

The steps presented include implementing FOLU Net Sink 2030, reducing emissions from waste and methane, as well as industrial transformation towards low-carbon production activities.

"We are accelerating climate action in all economic sectors through FOLU Net Sink 2030, reducing emissions from waste and methane, and carrying out industrial transformation, both through decarbonization of existing industries and the development of low-carbon industries from the design stage," said Jumhur.

He emphasized that the energy transition must also consider the needs of society, including energy security and affordability.
