Fallen Trees Block Roads in Banjarbaru, DLH Reminds You of the Risks of Taking Shelter When It Rains
BANJARBARU, GARISBUMI.com – A large trembesi tree fell during heavy rain accompanied by strong winds on Jalan Bhayangkara, near the BKN Office, Sungai Ulin Village, Banjarbaru City, Friday (6/11/2026) at around 18.00 WITA. There were no victims in this incident, but tree trunks and branches blocked the road and hampered traffic.
The incident is a reminder for motorists and pedestrians to pay attention to the risk of falling trees when the weather worsens. The Banjarbaru City Environmental Service (DLH) asks the public to avoid taking shelter or parking vehicles under large trees, especially those that are old or appear prone to falling.
Based on information from the Banjarbaru City Government, access for two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles was blocked by tree material. Congestion occurred during handling at the location.
The roots are thought to be unable to support the tree
Head of the Banjarbaru City DLH Environmental Management Division, M. Hafidhuddin Noor, explained that the fallen rainwater was quite old. The roots are thought to no longer be able to support the weight of the trunk and crown when hit by heavy rain and strong winds.
According to Hafidhuddin, the incident did not cause any casualties. The reported impact is in the form of traffic jams due to road closures.
The Banjarbaru City Government's statement does not yet contain the results of further examination of the condition of the roots or the tree's maintenance history. Thus, the explanation regarding the condition of the roots is still an alleged cause submitted by DLH.
