Anticipating Floods, West Jakarta Plans Apuran Pump House
WEST JAKARTA, GARISBUMI.com – The West Jakarta City Government is discussing plans to build an Apuran pump house with a capacity of 12,000 liters per second to support flood management. This plan includes dredging the Apuran River, improving water channels and arranging water storage areas in Rawa Buaya.
Cengkareng Subdistrict Head Suhardin conveyed the plan at the Regional Coordination Meeting chaired by West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah in the Pattern Room of the West Jakarta Mayor's Office, Monday (5/10/2026).
The meeting, which was attended by eight sub-district heads and heads of regional apparatus organizations, discussed flood management, waste management, infrastructure and regional planning.
According to Suhardin, the West Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-dept. plans to build the Apuran pump house while simultaneously dredging and normalizing the Apuran River. The arrangement also includes the Rawa Buaya area to provide water storage space.
"Apart from the Apuran River, the Rawa Buaya area is also being arranged in the form of building reservoirs, persuasive control, and arranging the riverbanks for retention space," he said.
Channel Dredging and Pump System Strengthening
Suhardin explained that flood management in Cengkareng was carried out through simultaneous community service, sedimentation dredging, and normalization of connecting channels (PHB).
Strengthening infrastructure also includes support for the polder pump and macro pump systems. Meanwhile, the connecting channel is optimized through mud dredging and routine maintenance.
This handling involves the government together with the community, business actors, academics and the media. Area planning is carried out through a persuasive approach to provide space for water.
Other improvements include normalizing channels at a number of points in Kapuk and Rawa Buaya, draining channels, and repairing retaining walls or sheet piles at Mookevart River in RW 08 Kedaung Kaliangke.
Iin appreciated the mud dredging carried out by officials in the Cengkareng area. He asked that these activities continue on micro channels and connecting channels with the SDA Sub-dept. to deal with the rainy season.
Kapuk Raya Channel Still Flooded
Even though the dredging has been carried out, Iin highlighted the condition of the water channels on Jalan Kapuk Raya which are still flooded.
"When I came and looked again, the water channel in front of the Kapuk Village office was still high," he said.
Head of the West Jakarta SDA Sub-dept. Mustajab explained that this condition was influenced by inflow from the Rawa Bengkel connecting channel. The problem is exacerbated by the downstream part being covered by buildings.
"So the water flow enters the canal on Jalan Kapuk Raya. This is also the impact of the volume of the irrigation canal," he said.
Apart from Cengkareng, Kalideres District discussed flood mitigation in a number of areas, especially RW 06, Kamal Village. Palmerah District explained the dredging of water channels, while Grogol Petamburan discussed the issue of the Grogol Reservoir, road repairs and illegal parking.
Waste Sorting from Source
Waste management was also a concern at the meeting. Kembangan Subdistrict Head Muhammad Fahmi Karsawijaya discussed the implementation of Governor's Instruction Number 5 of 2026 concerning community movements to process and sort waste from its source.
Kebon Jeruk District is promoting the implementation of urban farming. Meanwhile, Tambora District discussed the arrangement of the convection industrial area and Taman Sari District explained the tourist potential of the Glodok Chinatown night market.
