Deputy Minister of the Environment Diaz Hendropriyono conveyed the importance of decarbonization of the mining industry at the RESOURCES ID Annual Business Meeting 2026 in Jakarta, Monday (21/9/2026)

JAKARTA, GARISBUMI.com – Deputy Minister of the Environment and Deputy Head of the Environmental Control Agency (KLH/Environmental Management Agency (BPLH)) Diaz Hendropriyono asked the mining industry to strengthen decarbonization and increase responsibility towards the environment.

Diaz emphasized that the large profits obtained by mining companies must be accompanied by comparable environmental responsibilities.

"Don't forget that big profits must be accompanied by more responsibility. This means that environmental responsibility must be even greater. We need to make decarbonization efforts," said Diaz at the RESOURCES ID Annual Business Meeting 2026 in Jakarta, Monday (21/9/2026).

The meeting had the theme Beyond Boundaries, Toward Global Excellence: Advancing Sustainable Mining Services Through Innovation and Collaboration.

According to Diaz, decarbonization is part of the national development mandate as stated in the 1945 Constitution and President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita.

"The state must be present because decarbonization is a mandate. It is stated in Article 33 Paragraph 4 of the Constitution that development must be environmentally friendly and in Asta Cita Number 8 to harmonize a harmonious life with the environment and nature. This means that decarbonization must be carried out in all sectors," he said.

Industry Asked to Report Emissions

Diaz encouraged industry players to calculate and report greenhouse gas emissions and their reduction results to KLH/Environmental Management Agency (BPLH) through the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory System or SIGN-SMART.

This reporting is needed so that the government can monitor emissions reduction achievements as well as develop incentive mechanisms for companies that carry out decarbonization.

"There is Presidential Regulation Number 110 which provides incentives to industry. So, the industrial sector must report its emission calculations to SIGN-SMART so that KLH/Environmental Management Agency (BPLH) can monitor it. Later there will be an emissions trading system that can provide incentives," he explained.

It is hoped that the emissions trading system will encourage companies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while increasing industrial efficiency and competitiveness.

Encourage ANTAM to Win Gold PROPER Again

Apart from decarbonization, Diaz highlighted the importance of company compliance and performance in environmental management.

KLH/Environmental Management Agency (BPLH) assesses the company's environmental performance through the Company Performance Rating Assessment Program in Environmental Management or PROPER.

Diaz hopes that PT Aneka Tambang Tbk or ANTAM can improve its environmental performance and again obtain Gold PROPER, the highest ranking in the assessment.

"I believe ANTAM can do it. Previously it had Gold PROPER, now Green PROPER. Hopefully this year and next year ANTAM can get gold again," he said.

The meeting was also attended by the Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency Arif Satria, Main Director of RESOURCES ID Hashari Kamaruddin, Director of Mineral Resources Management ANTAM Hartono, and Director of Downstream Strategy and Downstream Operations of MIND ID Achmad Ardianto.

Also present were ANTAM President Commissioner Irwandy Arif and Freeport Executive Vice President Corporate Development Dharma Djojonegoro.
