JAKARTA, GARISBUMI.com – Embung Batu Bangkong and Embung Bambu Hitam in Cipayung District, East Jakarta, combine the function of collecting rainwater with space for residents' activities. The two reservoirs with a total capacity of 36,550 cubic meters were inaugurated by DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, Monday (19/10/2026).

Built with a blue-green infrastructure approach and nature-based solutions, the two reservoirs are part of efforts to reduce the risk of flooding while supporting water conservation.

"Embung Batu Bangkong and Embung Bambu Hitam were built by the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Department in 2025 using a blue-green approach and a nature-based solution. They were built as a means of controlling water resources, a source of raw water, as well as a space for public interaction," said Pramono.

Collects Rain, Reduces Drainage Loads

The Batu Bangkong Embung is located on an area of 1.3 hectares. The area of the water body reaches 0.58 hectares, with a storage capacity of 20,300 cubic meters.

Meanwhile, Black Bamboo Embung has a land area of around 2.1 hectares and a water body of 0.50 hectares. Its storage capacity reaches 16,250 cubic meters.

According to Pramono, the function of the reservoir is to hold and accommodate rainwater so that it does not directly burden drainage channels and river flows. Its existence also supports water absorption in the surrounding area.

"The main function of this reservoir is to store water. So it is not then drained, but the water seeps in here. So that is why it has become a place for conservation," he explained.
